Jimmy Kimmel is one of the most loved hosts of the American television industry. He began his television career as a counterpart on the ‘Win Ben Stein’s Money’, gradually going on to grabbing his own talk show, ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’ in 2003.
Today he is loved by people across the world. Lately, he’s been more in the limelight because of his drastic Fat loss which rocketed as a shock that he received when he weighed himself back in 2010.
Incidentally, it was around the same time that Dr.Oz appeared on his night show which left Kimmel wondering why somebody else should be more concerned about his health than himself. That’s when Jimmy Kimmel fat loss journey began.
Then, he started taking his health very seriously. Kimmel reportedly when on to try a variety of diet changes. He tried a strict 2,000 calorie-a-day diet. Such a sudden calorie deficit led to a sudden change in his stubborn 208 pounds (94.4 kg approx.).
It was for the first time that he saw changes in his body as, throughout his life, his Italian lifestyle led him to indulge all kinds of savories.
The ultimate change that took place was when he discovered the 5:2 diet. The 5:2 diet is a fad diet that emphasizes intermittent fasting. It became popular around the same time as Kimmel decided to give his love for food for a healthy lifestyle. In 2012, BBC broadcast a Horizon episode featuring a physician and author, Michael Mosley who explained his experiments with fasting.
The 5:2 diet involves restricting calorie consumption to 25% of an individual caloric needs for two days per week, and eating normally for the other five days. Kimmel loved the idea of 5:2 diet as it helped him keep his love for food alive by eating whatever he wanted during the 5 days of eating while eating restricted during the other two days. On Monday and Tuesday – the days that Kimmel restricts his diet – he drinks coffee and eats pickles, egg whites, apples, peanut butter, and oatmeal. Jimmy Kimmel fat loss story has truly inspired a lot of people.
Though extreme to many, Kimmel has been going steady and healthy 182 pounds with the help of this diet. Celebrities such as Beyonce, This Morning presenter Phillip Schofield, Hollyoaks actress Jennifer Metcalfe, Hugh Jackman, Jennifer Lopez are only a few names on the long list of the celebrities who swear by the 5:2 diet.
Even though the list of these diet lovers is long, many dieticians believe that this fad diet would soon be out of the fashion too because of its undeniable drawbacks. It is advisable for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding to consult a doctor before embarking on this diet. Also, diabetic people, children, and teenagers are advised against it as they would miss out on a lot of nutrients that are necessary for them.
